Study Abroad Scholarships

If you are a student currently attending a U.S. college or university, you are probably already aware of the many different kinds and sources of financial aid and study abroad scholarships that are available to you.
The important thing to know for study abroad students coming to Greece is that by law Federal and Sate Financial Aid is transferable for their overseas study. There are one or two caveats, however.

1) Current policy is that a student must sign up for the equivalent of at least 6 semester credits in order to tap into the aid they are receiving.

2) There is a difference between Federal and State aid and institutional aid. Each school has its own policy about allowing its students to use their school-based scholarship for study abroad. Ask you Financial Aid Advisor.

3) If the program you want to attend is not connected with your own school, transfer of government aid can be made through the University Financial Aid Consortium Agreement. This process is very easy: ask your financial aid advisor about it and work through him/her with the program you have chosen. Know, however, that this transfer can only be made if the study abroad program is a Title IV institution or an affiliate of one. If a program is unaccredited and/or unaffiliated with a U.S. institution, this cannot be done.
